Columbus Day

It was a navigator, cartographer, Admiral, Viceroy and Governor General of the West Indies in the service of the Crown of Castile. It is famous for making the discovery of America on October 12, 1492, arriving at the island of Guanahani, currently in the Bahamas.Christopher Columbus claimed that the Far East could be achieved (known at the time as "Las Indias") from Europe sailing across the Atlantic Ocean to the west, and it was possible to make the journey by sea with the possibility of success. The fall of the Roman Empire East held by the Ottoman Turks in 1453, after the capture of Constantinople, the capital, it caused the increase of trade between Europe and the eastern regions.Columbus planned his trip in order to bring Eastern goods, especially spices and gold. The road of spices including spices, silk and other products originating in the Far East, had come through the centuries always trade route through Asia to Europe, Asia Minor and Egypt, but from expansion Ottoman Empire this road became difficult and was monopolized by them and their partners, the Italian merchants. The Kingdom of Portugal and the Kingdom of Castile, then the early stages of the modern age, wanted those goods without intermediaries.
